Webinar: Engaging with Your Public Utility Commission

John Shenot, Ken Colburn and Chris James presented a webinar on October 25, 2011 for air quality regulators from eastern states on Engaging with Your Public Utility Commission. The webinar was convened through the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) Energy Efficiency/Air Quality Planning Workgroup with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Shenot presented an overview of what public utility commissions (PUC) are, why they exist, how they typically operate, and how state air quality regulators can effectively engage their state PUC on utility issues that have air quality ramifications. Mr. Colburn and Mr. James demonstrated these ideas by summarizing “real world” public utility commission cases in which air quality regulators had played an important role in shaping the outcome.
