Empowering Customers to Enhance the Grid

As a result of technology advances and dramatic decreases in the costs of clean distributed resources, customers are transforming the power sector. Electric vehicles, batteries, ice storage, and water heaters can play a critical role in enabling the power sector to meet climate and environmental goals by providing flexibility through controlled charging. This flexibility can enhance the power system’s ability to cost-effectively integrate variable renewable energy resources into the grid.

Our Focus

Our team helps policymakers, regulators, industry, and other stakeholders develop ways to adapt the regulatory paradigm to ensure that customer-side resources can fully participate in the power sector. We help them create strategies that provide fair compensation for customer resources that provide value to the grid and ensure that all customers benefit from lower costs, increased reliability, and environmental improvement. We also identify opportunities to harmonize transportation and energy policy.
