In this presentation for the webinar, “Tracking Renewable Energy for Compliance with the Clean Power Plan,” Jennifer Martin of the Center for Resource Solutions discusses the role of renewable energy tracking systems. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has made clear that state clean energy programs—including those related to renewable energy—can contribute to a state’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) compliance. Existing renewable energy credit (REC) tracking systems can help states document renewable electricity production, verify the use of renewable energy for compliance with a specific state plan, assure no double counting between states for Clean Power Plan compliance, and facilitate interstate trading of renewable energy. Ms. Martin discusses how the tracking systems work and makes recommendations for how states can collaborate with tracking system administrators to support state compliance plans.
