This presentation at the American Wind Energy Association’s Wind & Transmission Workshop in Omaha describes early findings from utility interviews on Western utility plans for renewable resources. It addresses three questions: 1) are utilities interested in developing areas identified as most economic by the western renewable energy zones model? Are utilities planning to develop resources closer to their service areas or more distant, higher quality resources – and why? 3) What are the barriers to coordinating resource procurement among utilities interested in the same zones to facilitate transmission development?
