This document presents the modeling results from the China section of RAP’s global project, Quantifying the Benefits of Electric Vehicle Managed Charging. Our key findings include:

  1. From the perspective of the grid dispatch center: Managed charging of electric vehicles provides essential flexibility and stability for daily grid operations without compromising user charging needs. Benefits include reduced ramping rates, lower system peak load, and decreased peak-to-valley differences in net load.
  2. From the perspective of system planning: Managed charging can support renewable energy integration, offering multiple benefits simultaneously such as reduced grid investment costs, increased renewable energy utilization, reduced dependence on coal-fired generation, and decreased carbon emissions.
