Howard Wenger

Director

Howard Wenger has worked for more than 30 years in the solar and utility power field as an entrepreneur, engineer, policymaker and executive, and board member of leading solar power companies — from startups to multibillion-dollar public companies. He continues to help enable a clean, all-electric future for buildings and transportation.

Wenger currently serves as president of Solaria Corp., a company focused on redefining residential solar power. In 2017, he also founded Wenger Ventures, an active venture capital fund investing in clean energy companies. Other experience includes 15 years as president at SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWR), president and CEO of SunPower Systems, and executive vice president and board director at PowerLight Corp., a leading commercial and large-scale solar power company acquired by SunPower in 2007. Howard Wenger also held management positions at Pacific Gas & Electric Co. of San Francisco, AstroPower Corp. (acquired by GE) and Pacific Energy Group, a company he co-founded.

During his career, Wenger has led and scaled companies, driven the establishment of public policies to mainstream solar, including the first net metering law in the United States (California, 1994), written or co-authored more than 70 clean energy papers and reports, and written software programs and tools that are still used today to design and engineer solar power systems.

Wenger holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master’s in civil, architectural and environmental engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
