As the markets for electric vehicles grow across the globe, it is imperative to ensure that power grids can provide additional, clean electricity. ‘Smart’ charging can support this aim by optimising electric vehicle charging to times with cheaper, greener electricity. Although this vital tool has gained traction, it is not yet available in all jurisdictions. How could the deployment of smart charging support companies in electrifying their fleets?

On 10 July, we’re pleased to welcome to the Electrification Academy Hussein Basma, senior researcher in the heavy-duty vehicles programme at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), and Markus Döhn, senior expert for electromobility at DHL Group, to discuss:

  • The economic and environmental benefits of deploying smart EV charging
  • The benefits for EV owners, including fleet managers
  • The current barriers and policy solutions to smart charging

We will be joined by RAP’s Julia Hildermeier, team lead e-transport, who prepared a series of case studies with ICCT on cost savings from smart charging in the four largest global EV markets.

Join the conversation by registering for the webinar. We invite you to bring your questions.

About the Electrification Academy

In 2020, the then European Copper Institute and the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) established the ‘Electrification Academy’ webinar series to explore practical aspects of the transition to a more electrified world. We conducted more than 25 webinars, for participants in 150 countries across the globe. RAP took on full stewardship of the Electrification Academy as of 2025. We’re delighted to continue to further these conversations about the importance of electrification and ways to advance this powerful tool for decarbonisation.
